Busia Couple Claims to Be Mary and Joseph – Attracts Regional Following

Nangoma Village, Matayos Constituency – Busia County, Kenya
A couple from Busia County has sparked national and regional attention after claiming to be Mary and Joseph from the Bible. The pair, Judith Nafula and her husband John Wekulo, say they received a divine message confirming their new identities and spiritual mission.
The Divine Claim: Who Are Judith Nafula and John Wekulo?
Judith Nafula, now widely referred to as “Prophet Mary”, previously attended Lwanya Catholic Parish before her expulsion. According to reports, she was removed after allegations of prophesying and healing through prayer—activities the local clergy deemed unorthodox.
Nafula asserts that she was chosen through a spiritual experience that occurred after a two-month fast, during which she claims the Holy Spirit renamed her Mary. She believes her mission now mirrors that of the biblical figure she represents.
“The Holy Spirit gave me the name Mary and instructed me to heal people and perform miracles,” said Nafula.
The Revelation: ‘You Are Joseph, the Father of the World’
Her husband, John Wekulo, supports her claims with his own extraordinary story. He recalls a night when their bedroom was suddenly filled with bright light, and a divine voice began speaking to them.
“I heard a voice calling out, ‘Mary, Mary, Mary.’ My wife woke up asking, ‘Who is Mary?’ The voice replied, ‘You are Mary,’” he recounted.
Wekulo claims that the voice then identified him as Joseph, adding:
“It told me I was the father of the world and that people would be sent to me for healing and help.”
Reactions and Regional Impact
The couple’s spiritual movement, though met with skepticism by local church authorities, has gained significant traction. Their home in Nangoma village has turned into a pilgrimage site, attracting followers from across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and even the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Many refer to Judith as “Prophet Mary” and credit her with miraculous healings and spiritual interventions.
A neighbor shared: “People are flocking here every day. Some say they were healed. Others just want to hear her speak.”
Miracles, Healing, and a Growing Ministry
Nafula also shared stories of her early life, claiming her birth was miraculous.
“I was born in Uganda as a white child. Doctors couldn’t explain it. People came from far to see me,” she said.
“I’ve always known I was different—now I understand why.”
The couple’s mission continues to evolve as their popularity spreads through word of mouth and viral social media posts. They’ve expressed intentions to build a center for healing and prayer in Busia County.
